Claus M. Fichte, M.D.

Dr. Fichte is well known as one of the country's leading surgeons in both the fields of cataract and refractive surgery. As a clinical investigator, he has been instrumental in the introduction of many new and improved techniques in ophthalmology.
At present, he is closely involved with the new multifocal intraocular lens implant, as well as "no-stitch" surgical technique and with the use of laser to correct eye problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.

Michael J. Endl, M.D.
Dr. Endl is a native of Western New York and his desire to return to Western New York and practice state-of-the-art ophthalmology in our community makes Fichte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare the perfect home for him.
He has written several chapters in various ophthalmology textbooks and received numerous awards. Dr. Endl has presented his research at several international ophthalmic meetings.
He graduated Magna Cum Laude with numerous honors while attending medical school at the University of Buffalo and then went on to specialize in ophthalmology at Louisiana State University in New Orleans. In his fourth year of residency, he was elected chief resident and studied with two of the country's leading experts in eye surgery.
Now partners with Dr. Fichte, he performs the latest techniques in laser eye correction as well as IOL implants to correct refractive errors. Cataract surgery is also a specialty that Dr. Endl enjoys, performing over 600 cases annually. Other areas of his practice include corneal transplants, glaucoma surgery and diabetic eye care.

Thomas R. Elmer Jr., M.D.
We welcome Thomas R. Elmer Jr., MD to our professional offices in Amherst and Niagara Falls. A native of Western New York, Dr. Elmer received his M.D. degree at SUNY-Buffalo School of Medicine. Following an internship at Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, he went on to a prestigious residency program at Louisiana State University, where he was elected Chief Resident in Ophthalmology. He then returned to Western New York and completed a Pediatric Ophthalmic Fellowship at SUNY-Buffalo Department of Ophthalmology. After the completion of his fellowship, he then went on an extended tour of mission eye surgery in Africa, performing a wide variety of complex eye surgeries.
Dr. Elmer’s extensive experience and training make him an excellent addition to Fichte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare. This includes not only his skills in cataract, refractive, glaucoma and laser surgeries, but also his specialized pediatric training, which allows us to further expand our total eye care services.

Linda Shenkle, O.D.
Dr. Shenkle received her B.S. in Chemistry from Grove City College in 1985. She went on to obtain her O.D. degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1989.
She has been in practice with Dr. Fichte since 1992 and has extensive experience and post-operative care. She has also been active in cataract post-operative care and the detection of glaucoma, as well as comprehensive eye exams for the entire family.

Michael S. Murphy, O.D.
Dr. Murphy received his B.A. degree in pre-med from Canisius College in 1995 and a B.S. and Doctor of Optometry from P.C.O. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Since his arrival in 2000, he has been active in handling triage patients, prescribing eyeglasses and fitting contact lenses. He handles the pre- and post-operative routine care of cataract and refractive patients, as well as participating in the detection and management of ocular disorders.

Jason MacLaughlin, O.D.
Dr. MacLaughlin received his B.S. degree in Biochemistry with a math minor from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh in 1998. He went on to receive his degree in Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry in 2002.
He has been affiliated with Fichte Eye Associates since 2003 with involvement in refractive patients, treatment and management of ocular disease, family eye care and contact lenses.

Lisa Genovese, O.D.
Dr. Genovese graduated with honors from Canisius College with a B.S. in Biology. She furthered her education and received her degree in Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry in 2002, specializing in Refractive Surgery and Sports Vision.
In 2004, Dr. Genovese joined Fichte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare to specialize in pre- and post-surgical care for refractive and cataract surgery. She also manages primary eye care for the entire family.
