Position Summary
Fichte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented New York State Licensed Optician to join our established ophthalmology practice. Our opticians play a vital role in delivering a seamless patient experience by combining technical expertise, fashion-forward eyewear guidance, and outstanding customer service.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced medical environment, work collaboratively with our ophthalmologists and clinical team, and uphold the highest standards of patient care. We have locations in both Amherst & Town of Niagara (near the Factory Outlet Mall). All applicants who want to be considered must be willing & able to work at both locations where needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and accurately fill prescriptions written by our ophthalmologists
- Measure patients for precise lens fabrication, including pupillary distance and segment height
- Assist patients in selecting frames and lenses tailored to their prescription, lifestyle, and visual needs
- Educate patients on advanced lens technologies including progressive lenses, premium coatings, blue light protection, and specialty lenses
- Ensure proper fitting, alignment, and adjustment of eyewear
- Verify finished eyewear for accuracy using optical equipment
- Maintain compliance with all New York State licensing requirements
- Collaborate with clinical and front desk teams to ensure smooth patient flow
- Manage optical orders, vendor communication, and frame inventory
- Maintain a polished and professional appearance
Qualifications
- Current New York State Optician License in good standing
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmic lenses, measurements, and frame styling
- Experience in a medical or ophthalmology practice preferred
- Proficiency with electronic medical record and optical ordering systems
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work at both the Amherst location and the Town of Niagara Location.

Full and/Part-time/ Per-diem Optometrist
Fichte Endl & Elmer Eyecare is seeking Full-time, Part-time, and Per-diem Optometrists to join our comprehensive ophthalmology practice, which operates from two locations in Amherst and Niagara Falls. Responsibilities include performing thorough eye examinations to diagnose vision conditions and assess overall eye health, prescribing and fitting corrective lenses or other vision aids, and providing treatment and management for eye diseases, injuries, and infections. Additionally, optometrists will educate patients on proper eye care and preventive measures, collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care, and maintain detailed medical records of patient examinations and treatment plans.
We welcome candidates with previous experience as an optometrist, though new graduates are also encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates should be proficient in medical terminology, systems, and procedures related to optometry, with a strong knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology, and pathology. Familiarity with medical coding, billing practices, and experience using electronic health record systems, specifically Compulink, is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate excellent clinical skills in performing eye examinations and assessments, possess strong communication skills for interacting effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff, and exhibit a keen attention to detail in diagnosing vision conditions and prescribing treatments. Additionally, the ability to use aseptic techniques for infection control during examinations and procedures is essential.

Scribe – Full or Part Time
We are currently looking for an ophthalmic scribe. The scribe works along side the doctors noting his findings in electronic medical records. Scribes also do specialized medical coding and billing for exams and ophthalmic testing. Other aspects of the job include, typing consult letters, escorting patients to check out or testing areas, obtaining signed consent from patients before medical procedures are performed and setting patient recalls and future appointments.
The scribe is an integral part of the team. Often times scribes are promoted to technicians where the skills they learned as a scribe are expanded upon in the technician role. We realize an ophthalmic scribe is a very unique position and we are willing to train the right person on the job.
Scribes ideally have some type of medical background so they understand medical terminology. They also must be able to type and are computer literate.

Ophthalmic Technician ( Full time & Part-time positions)
Ophthalmic Technicians needed for progressive expanding Ophthalmic team. The successful candidates will be responsible for exceptional patient care and have an outgoing and friendly attitude. Qualifications include – good computer skills, excellent customer service skills, multi-tasking, and the ability to work in a team environment.
The Ophthalmic Technician is an indispensable part of our medical team. Not only does the Technician take a full medical history on the patient, they are responsible for all the pre-testing which needs to be performed before the patient sees the doctor. These pre-tests include checking interocular eye pressure, vision assessment, neutralizing glasses, refractometry, topography, glare testing, and more. If you have experience performing these tests you are an IDEAL CANDIDATE. Working on a computer in electronic medical record systems entering test data and patient history is also a large part of the job.
The ideal candidate will have one or more years of experience working as an ophthalmic technician, Optometric technician, medical scribe, or optician. While graduates of a medical assisting or Optician program are also desirable, we will consider training the right person if he/she does not meet the preferred experience guidelines.
