On April 28th 2014 Michael J. Endl MD lectured to a group of MD’s at this years annual ASCRS Symposium in Boston Mass. . ASCRS is an acrynom for American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons. Dr Endl presented case studies and information about an all now Corneal Topographer “THE CASSINI”. This instrument is taking corneal topography into a new era . With its submicron accuracy and ability to map and measure all eyes, also dry eyes and irregular corneas, the Cassini outperforms classic ring-based ‘Placido’ topograpraphers and may well replace them all together in the near future. At Fichte Endl & Elmer Eyecare, the Cassini has been used in patient trials over the past year . The practice is one of only a few in the US to have the privelege of offering this cutting edge LED Technology to it’s patients. While in Boston Dr. Endl also presented a paper about an all new drug delivery system used after cataract surgery so that patients can avoid using post operative eye drops. A plug is placed under the eyelid to deliver the medicine in a slow release fashion over a 4 week period.
