Fichte Endl and Elmer Eyecare, one of Western New York’s largest ophthalmology practices, has announced an expansion of their Northtown office on Creekside Dr in Amherst. As previously announced, the firm purchased a new FEMTEC femtosecond laser from Technolas Perfect Vision, a joint venture between Bausch & Lomb’s Refractive Surgery unit and 20/10 Perfect Vision. The FEMTEC laser is considered the most advanced technology to create the “flap” that is used when laser vision correction is performed on a patient. This is the second blade-free laser now available for LASIK procedures, the first being the Intralase laser. The firm also recently added a new eye glass lens finishing lab in Amherst, providing on-site lens making ability to reduce patient wait time for their glasses.
As part of this expansion, the Practice also added 12 new employees to bring total employment to 65, up from 53 last year. The firm also added an additional 2,000 square feet of space to their Amherst offices to accommodate the new equipment and staff. The total investment in equipment, space and staff amounted to $1M in the past several months.
